GRANTSVILLE — One person is dead and another is missing following an incident Friday afternoon at Grantsville Reservoir.
Tooele County Sheriff Paul Wimmer said his agency received a report of a boat sinking at the reservoir, south of Grantsville, just after 1:30 p.m. The 911 caller said multiple people in a boat had been calling for help and were now in the water, struggling to swim.
When emergency responders arrived, witnesses told them that one man had been pulled from the water by kayakers.
“The individual was unresponsive, and officers, along with medical personnel, immediately initiated life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful,” a statement from the sheriff’s office says.
Another person was still missing as of 5 p.m., according to the statement. The Tooele County Search and Rescue team and the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team were still working to locate that person.
The public is being asked to avoid the area Friday night so as not to interfere with the rescue operation.
