BRIGHAM CITY — The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body found on July 12 in the Silver Island Mountains as Michael Steven Comstock, 62, of Sandy.
After an investigation, the sheriff’s office reported on the Box Elder County’s Facebook page that “Comstock’s death was a result of exposure coupled with a cardiac event.” His body was found 20 miles away from his vehicle and a trailer for an ATV on I-80 in Tooele County.
With the help of the Box Elder County search and rescue team, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office tried to find Comstock’s ATV, to no avail. They are currently asking the public’s assistance in finding the vehicle.
“If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Comstock’s UTV, please contact the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office Detective Tip Line at (435) 734-6530 or send us a direct message,” the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media.
The sheriff’s office suspects Comstock rode his ATV north along the Silver Island Mountains and became separated from the ATV for unknown reasons. They believed he then tried to walk back to his vehicle.
The office reminds anyone walking in remote Box Elder County to carry plenty of food and water with you, as well as to let someone know where you are going and what time you will be back.
