KEARNS — A Kearns woman who works part time in a day care center has been arrested after allegedly saying that she goes out of her way to find child sex abuse material.
Kylee Ann Callaway, 19, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with seven counts of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, a first-degree felony.
The investigation began in October when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported that child sex abuse material was being shared online. The IP address of the sender was traced back to a subscriber in Utah.
Seven files of child sex abuse material were sent to a person later determined to be Callaway’s boyfriend, according to charging documents. Investigators also found messages between the two in which Callaway allegedly wrote, “I go way too out of my way to find videos of people under 18” and “I do so much work to make sure (it’s) real … and not some roleplay.”
On Monday, investigators with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children task force went to Callaway’s residence with a warrant. They learned she also “sometimes works at a day care facility and works with mostly infants and 2-year-old children,” according to the charges.
“Kylee works and supervises children who are the same age as some of the kids in the child sex abuse material files she knowingly sent. Kylee sent child sex abuse material files to a man who admitted he is a danger as he has sexual thoughts about children and has to avoid them to prevent himself from hurting them,” a police booking affidavit states.
The affidavit further notes that “Kylee was banned from (a) social media site and opened up a new account. In subsequent conversations, Kylee told (the boyfriend) she was hesitant to send pornography because she didn’t want to be banned again.”
The boyfriend, who had not been charged as of Wednesday, told investigators that “they share lots of different pornography. (He) admitted to receiving child sex abuse material on another social media platform and forwarding it on to other users,” the affidavit alleges.
